Absinth

Absinth, also spelled absinthe, is a shrub named wormwood. The essence extracted from this shrub is also known as absinth. Absinth has traditionally been used for making a potent green aniseed-flavoured liqueur. This liqueur, when water is added to it, turns milky. This milk is then consumed as spirit or alcohol. Liqueur of other flavours are also made by adding other herbs.

A highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90–148 US proof) beverage is made from this shrub.

Today, it is largely banned because of its toxicity.
