Ad valorem

Ad valorem literally means 'according to the value'. It is a term in finance used to refer to a tax, duty, levy or any other charges fall in this category when calculated in certain proportion to the estimated value of goods or transactions concerned. Thus we can have ad valorem duties or taxes.
