Amalaric
Amalaric (c. 502–531) was king of the Visigoths. He was a son of king Alaric II, who was killed while fighting Clovis I, king of the Franks, in the Battle of Vouillé in 507. Clotilde, a daughter of Clovis I married him around 526. Clotilde refused to adopt Amalaric's religion which led to Amalaric's expulsion from Narbonne, and a conflict between her brother King Childebert I and Amalaric in 531 at Barcelona in Spain. Amalaric was defeated and was assassinated by his own men. Clotilde embarked on a journey to Francia with the Frankish army, but she died en route. Her dead body was brought to Paris, where she was buried.Nearby pages
