Amaravati Stupa
Amaravati Stupa is a monument in ruins, situated at Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh in India. It is located at about 50 km from south of Vijayawada town. This Buddhist monument was built in the 2nd - 3rd centuries BC. However, Subsequent additions were made in the 1st-4th centuries AD under both Satavahana and Ikshvaku kings. The ancient Satavahana capital, Dhanyakataka is nearby. The stupa was 36.5 m across and encircled by a 4.2 m path. This was a brick structure covered with marble casing slabs. Now, only a large earthen mound survives of the original stupa.Nearby pages
