Arcot

Arcot is a town and suburb of Vellore city in the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

History

Arcot was the name of two districts, North and South, in the Presidency of Madras. It was also chief town in the district, 65 miles South West of Madras (now Chennai). It was captured by Clive in 1787. Once, it was also the capital of the Carnatic (now spelled Karnataka).
