Aspartic acid

Aspartic acid is a term in biochemistry for an acidic amino acid. Its chemical formula is COOHCH₂CH(NH₂)COOH. It is a constituent of most proteins, plays an important role in the metabolism of nitrogen in animals, and acts as a neurotransmitter. It also occurs in sugar cane.
