Ballart

Ballart is a town in Victoria in Australia. Since 1851 the second important city in the region, which included the historical Ballart province existed from 1937 to 2006. The city is situated about 100 miles North-West of Melbourne. It was the centre of the chief gold-fields in the British colony, the precious metal being at first washed out of the soil, and later crushed out of the quartz rocks and dug out of deep mines. It is the seat of both a Roman Catholic and a Church of England bishopric.
