Barium sulfate

Barium sulfate, chemical formula BaSO₄, is an insoluble and odourless white powder. It is used in several industries including making of pigments, textiles, paper, and plastic. It is also used as contrasting agent in X-raying patient's stomach and intestines, for which the powder is mixed with water and the patients are asked to swallow it.
