Barre

Barre, literally bar in French, is a horizontal bar at the waist-height of a ballet dancer who rests a hand on it for support while exercising.

Barré is a term in music for a way of playing on guitar or stringed instrument. In this technique, a chord is played, raising the pitch, and putting a finger across the strings at a particular fret.
