Philip Henry Gosse

Philip Henry Gosse (1810-1888) was an English naturalist, horn at Worcester, in business in Newfoundland, Canada, and the United States. He spent his leisure hours in the study of natural history, chiefly insects. After a visit of two years to Jamaica wrote an account of its birds. He compiled several works introductory to the study of animal life, and latterly devoted himself to the study of marine animals.
