Quakers

Quakers are the Society of Friends, so called first by Justice Bennet of Derby, because Fox bade him quake before the Lord. They are a Christian group that originated in England in the 17th century. They stress on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that rejects outward rites and an ordained ministry. They practice pacifism and equality. Their worship services are simple that include silence.

In 1650, Justice Bennet and Nathaniel Barton conducted the trial of George Fox, the founder of the Religious Society of Friends. George Fox recorded in 1650 that “Justice Bennet of Derby first called us Quakers because we bid them tremble at the word of God.”
