Whig
Today, a Whig is a historian who interprets history in terms of inevitalbe victory of progress, as a continuous process of civilization, over reaction.In British history, a member of the reforming and constitutional political party that sought the supremacy of Parliament was known as a Whig. This political party of the 17th century was eventually succeeded by the Liberal Party in the 19th century. Whigs were initially a faction and then a political party.
A Whig was also a Scotish Presbyterian in the 17th century. They were also known as Scottish rebels.
In American history, a Whig was an American colonist who supported the American Revolution of the late 18th century.
In the 19th century America, a Whig was a member of the political Whig party which was succeeded by the Republicans.
