William Bligh

William Bligh (1754 — 1817) was a British naval officer. He was the captain of HMS Bounty. His first mate Fletcher Christian and his group mutinied against him in 1789. They set him adrift in an open boat. However, Bligh landed safely at Timor a few weeks later. The distance between the place where he was set adrift and the place where he landed was nearly 4000 miles (6,400 km).
