William Scoresby
William Scoresby (1787-1857) was an English scientist, born at Whitby. He began his life as a sailor, visited the Arctic regions twice over, and wrote an account of his explorations. He took to the Church, and held several clerical charges, but retired in 1849, and gave himself to scientific researches, both at home and abroad.Nearby pages
