St Sylvester
St Sylvester (285 - 335) was the first Pope of Rome to reign entirely under the liberty of the Church, guaranteed by the Edict of Milan in 313. He is said to have converted Constantine and his mother by restoring a dead ox to life which a magician for a trial of skill killed, but could not restore to life. He is usually represented by an ox lying beside him, and sometimes in baptizing Constantine.Nearby pages
