Speakers in the seminar tried to answer several misconceptions allegedly being spread about Savarkar's thoughts and contributions.
Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh, who was present as the chief guest in the programme, elaborated on Savarkar's ideology, his nationalism and social reform work. He alleged that the Congress and Rahul Gandhi had been insulting Savarkar for their perceived political gain. Ironically, it was the same Savarkar, whom Indira Gandhi honoured for his sacrifice and self-denial in the 1970s, who is being defamed by her own party today.
Prafull Ketkar, editor of the weekly 'Organiser', who chaired the programme, sharply criticised the systematic attempts to distort Savarkar's ideas in the media, educational institutions and cultural discourse. He emphasised, "If anyone devoted his entire life for the national interest, it was only Savarkar. Savarkar used to think ahead of his time."
Sunil Deodhar, founder of 'My Home India' and former national secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while discussing Savarkar's life of struggle, jail journey and his dedication towards social harmony, called upon the youth to take inspiration from his life and work for the national interest.
He said, "The British were so afraid of Savarkar that they banned the book written by him even before it was published. This was the first occasion in history when a book was banned even before its publication."
During this programme ‘Hindu Kesari - Seva Suraksha and Samrasta Award’ was announced in the memory of Veer Savarkar. Suresh Chavhanke, the founder and chief editor of Sudarshan News was awarded the first prize. While giving his speech on this occasion, he announced to open Shivaji University and Gurukul near Savarkar ji's birthplace.
Along with him, 10 other Hindu activists were also honored for their special contribution towards Hindutva in their respective fields.
On this occasion, the Vice President of the organization Dr. K.G. Suresh and Delhi-NCR President Mr. Baldev Raj Sachdeva also expressed their views.
A large number of students, teachers, intellectuals, and social workers participated in the programme. Speakers at the programme said in one voice that there was a historical need to refute the propaganda being spread against Savarkar through facts and research.
